on Wednesday March 5
Amy shared quilts she has made to help demonstrate how she includes alternate gridwork and negative space, two principles of modern quilting. She described how she has played with these two ideas in different ways over the last few years—from just a touch to bold. Amy provided lots of inspiration for when we are planning our quilt layouts.
Workshop: "Improvisational Paper Piecing" on March 22 by Amy Friend
Amy led participants in designing an original improv pattern for paper piecing with 5 or 6 colours. We experimented with grid layouts of the pattern and using the mirror or rotated version of the pattern. This workshop was based on one of the three design approaches that shed share in her second book, Improv Paper Piecing: A Modern Approach to Quilt Design.
