Here are some of the fantastic pieces that were shared at June's meeting! Our Guild sadly said our farewell to one of our founding members and former Treasurer, Sandra. Sandra is retiring and moving across the country. Among other gifts, we gave her this tote bag with the LMQG logo on it. Thank you Sandra for all you have done! We wish you all the best on your new adventures!!

Our June meeting will be held this upcoming Saturday, 10am-12pm, June 14, 2014 at Hyggeligt Fabrics, 515 Richmond Street, Unit 3, London, ON N6A 5N4.
Our Agenda this month will include:
After the Meeting we will be holding our very first "Sew-In" for Members. Please bring a lunch and a project to work on. Hope to see you Saturday! Our May meeting was held on Saturday, May 10th. We finally had a sunny, warm day! Our meeting began with a quick update about our Community Project. A BIG thank you to everyone who has taken their time and resources to donate to this project. We are still in need of large pieces of batting and large pieces of fabric for the backs of the quilts being made. Our Modern Quilt Guild update included very important dates for Quiltcon 2015. Here are the dates to remember:
For those participating in the Michael Miller Challenge, the due date has been changed to July 25, 2014! Jan reviewed the book "Transparency Quilts" by Weeks Ringle & Bill Kerr. This book plays with creating the illusion of transparency within the quilt designs. It gives great pointers for fabric selections and gives alternate colour suggestions for the quilt patterns in the book. Jan also shared that she subscribes to the "Modern Quilts Illustrated" which "is an advertisement-free magazine that takes a colorful and graphic approach to modern quilting. Printed on high-quality acid-free paper, the magazine is published three times a year. Each issue contains three original patterns (issues 7-9 will have four original patterns) and one project, in addition to discussions on color palettes, helpful tools, innovative techniques and more. " - Modern Quilt Studio. Click here to have a closer look at the Modern Quilts Illustrated! As always, our discussions brought up many helpful tips and hints. Christine has shared the following links to tutorials for the "Quilt-As-You-Go" technique: 1. Lily Quilts 2. Fave Quilts: Strip Quilting 3. Fave Quilts: Quilt as You Go Kristyn shared Child like Fascination's great tutorial for widening your ironing board. Chantal shared an article from Generation Q Magazine about Toronto Quilter, Libs Elliott. It is definitely worth the read! As a reminder, there are several quilt events happening nearby: Ailsa Craig Quilt Festival - Quilts of Great Britain - May 19th-24th Fibre Expressions IX at the Central Public Library, 251 Dundas Street in downtown London from May 2 – May 29. CQA's Quilt Canada - June 11-14 Chicago International Quilt Festival - June 19-21 Quilts at the Creek - August 16-17 In anticipation of our very own Logo Challenge, we ordered a fat quarter of fabric with our logo printed on it from Spoonflower. Our guidelines and colour matches for the challenge are now posted in the 'Member's Only" Section of the website. For those interested in order their own fabric with our logo on it, you can find it here. And lastly, here are the great pieces that were shared at our Show and Share: Our next meeting will be held June 12, 2014, 10am at Hyggeligt Fabrics, 3-515 Richmond Street, London, ON. N6A 5N4. Hope to see you there!
On Saturday, April 12, 2014 we held our April meeting. For some of us, this meeting took place while we were still fresh with "Jaquie Gering" inspiration. Some of us had attended Jacquie's workshops and lecture earlier in the week. We had a couple of new faces join us. It was great to have them participate and take an interest. We talked a bit about our membership. If you interested in knowing more about our membership, she can have a look at our "Join" page. Mary provided an update about our Limberlost Community Project. In addition to the many supplies and fabric that have been generously donated for the project, we have also received 6 sewing machines that are being put to good use. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Some items that we are still in need of are large pieces of fabric for the backs of quilts and batting. We received our fabric for the Modern Quilt Guild's Michael Miller Challenge. This is a challenge that is open to all Modern Quilt Guild members. For the rules of the challenge, please click here. Mary shared 2 books, Sunday Morning Quilts by Cheryl Arkison & Amanda Jean Nyberg and A Month of Sundays by Cheryl Arkison. Sunday morning Quiilts is a fantastic book filled with scap quilting projects. A month of Sundays is not just a quilting book, but also tells a lot about Cheryl Arkison's life and is full of reminder for us to slow our pace. We have setup a Pinterest Board for our members to pin their favourite quilting books. Have a look at it here. As always, we had some fantastic quilts and works-in-progress shared during our Show & Share portion of the meeting. Our next meeting will be held May 10, 2014, 10-12pm at Hyggeligt Fabrics, 3-515 Richmond Street, London, ON. Hope to see you there!
