September Meeting - Paper Piecing

9/13/2025

What a great meeting with Jane & Linda sharing paper piecing techniques and amazing samples and quilts.

Check out the resources and a Linda's final quilt from Amy Friend's workshop. She also shared her original block design with all the papers still on so that can be seen as how the blocks with paper still on go together, and the design needed mirrored blocks; and how I keep track of which fabric goes on which piece while constructing.

You can make-your-own FPP.

Members were able to try out the technique - and a good discussion about the difference between using paper or freezer paper.

Linda shared a PP motorcycle she received (details here: https://quiltingbiker.blogspot.com/2018/07/mini-swap-delight.html) in a guild swap that is absolutely amazing.

See all the details in the member's section.

Thank you Lyndsey J.
for your big stitch quilting trunk show. Seeing your work is inspiring! Seeing how to how to include big stitches in a quilt and allowing us to try on a small sample made it seem very straight forward. Your quilts are beautiful! The big stitches add another dimension to your quilts. It was great to try it out.

In case you missed the July meeting, check out the member's area for Lyndsey's slide show and trunk show pictures.

November Workshop with Sheila Frampton Cooper

Spontaneous Creation & Inspiration: Lecture Nov 5 - 7 pm
via zoom                    Guest Registration: Lectures - Guest tickets $10

Workshop Nov 15 & 29

***Workshop registration for members now open***

After channeling her artistic muse to painting, jewelry making and architectural photography for many years, Sheila plunged into abstract quilt-making in 2010. Guided by no plan, no sketch and no agenda, but fed by intuition and inspired by nature’s palette, she speeds into journeys of revelation and surprise in her quilt studio. Her live intensity is apparent in the colors, lines and shapes of her improvisational textile works.

“Whether I'm painting, drawing or piecing a studio quilt, moving head first into the unknown fuels my creativity,” Sheila said. “I relish all the surprising discoveries along the way as the journey starts to reveal itself to me.”

Since embarking on her fiber art adventure, Sheila has won awards at major quilt shows, including: IQA World of Beauty in Houston, AQS Show in Paducah and Road to California. Her work has been exhibited worldwide.

Sheila currently resides in Northern California.

Lecture: Spontaneous Creation & Inspiration
Nov 5 at 7:00 pm - Free for members

Workshop: Appliqué + Piecing = New Possibilities
Nov 15 & 29 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm
via zoom
Members $105 register here

Students will be provided with small compositions to assemble and become comfortable with the technique. I will provide guidance in regard to creating a drawing for a larger piece. In addition, I will present a slideshow and video that illustrate all of the steps in the process.

By using this technique, you can bring almost any complex abstract or realistic idea into quilt form. You will retain a clean, graphic look and when complete, you will have a quilt top pieced together with a 1/4” seam allowance.
