By Veronica.
Present: Chantal, Mary, Sheilagh, Christine, Candace, Catharine, Kristyn, Tia, Sandra, Lyndsey and Veronica.
Chantal reported that she spoke with Denyse Schmidt about the blanket pattern Mary wants to use for the Limberlost Community Outreach project. Denyse has given her permission for use of the pattern as long as the blankets are not sold. Word has gone out to the Limberlost community about the Outreach project. Old wool blankets or bedspreads with strips of fabric sewn on them will be provided to participants. Participants will then be shown how to finish off the blanket off with the blanket stitch using perle cotton. Mary spoke with the Chaplain and it was decided that Mary should be the one constant for the group rather than having different guilds involved.
The first of weekly sessions will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 10-11:30 a.m. Location is 1481 Limberlost Road Unit 136.
LMQG received pins from the MQG for our members. These pins will be handed out next year. Also in the new year we will be getting new membership cards with our own logo on them.
Quiltcon will be held in Austin Texas in February 2015. Chantal suggested that perhaps we could get a group together to attend.
Our membership year runs from January to December. Dues are $35 for the year, up from $25, and can be paid online through PayPal on London Modern Quilt Guild website. You can also pay Sandra, our treasurer, with cash or a cheque. Fees cover your membership for both the LMQG and the Modern Quilt Guild plus expenses for us to keep our website up and running.
Jacquie Gering is president of the MQG. Hyggeligt, the Marsh Store and Sew Creative are responsible for bringing Jacquie to London in April. Jacquie will be teaching a workshop and be giving a lecture. The full day April 11th workshop sold out very quickly but the April 10th lecture still has some space available. Chantal is investigating adding another workshop date.
The two options for our new LMQG logo were passed around for members to vote on their favorite. Option A was on a solid background with the trunk of the tree a variety of colours. Option B had a patterned background with a solid brown trunk. It was decided by the majority of the members present to combine the two logos so that there would be a solid background with the brown tree trunk. Sonia’s son was kind enough to create this wonderful logo for us. Sonia will be contacted to see if the changes could be made to the logo. We will send out a thank you note plus give credit for the logo’s creator on our website.
The LMQG now has a “members only” area. The password is “lmqg2013”. Sheilagh created our fantastic website updates our Facebook account. It was suggested that another member should be trained as a back up for the website and Facebook.
There is a free app (available at the Apple App Store or Google Play for android) providing help with calculating fabric amounts when making a quilt. It is a very useful app. Just search for Robert Kaufmann in the App Store.
Cotton by Post is closing up shop on December 28, 2013 after 17 years in business. Sewing machines and fabric is on sale for 40% off.
Knit Stitch is a new knitting store that has just opened up at 609 Richmond Street.
Our next meeting will be on January 11, 2014. Bring in the first quilt you ever made. Please remember to also bring in the blankets for the Community Outreach project. Take a picture and use it for inspiration in creating a quilt. Don’t forget to work on your Riley Blake challenge.
Throughout the meeting we all enjoyed the wonderful treats provided by the members as well as coffee and tea provided by Chantal. Thank you everyone.
