In November 2021 Tamara presented a lecture on Designing Fabric and a workshop on her Lovely Day appliqué quilt.

Lecture Description: A PEEK INTO THE WORLD OF FABRIC DESIGN

What goes into designing your favourite fabrics?

Tamara will talk of her creative journey within the worlds of fabric design and quilt making and share info on her 8 years (and counting) in the industry: how she got the gig, the process from idea to printed fabric, how she designs, her sources of inspiration, and many other tidbits she’s gathered during the makings of her 15+ collections.

All this while showing samples from the design and printing processes and of course, lots and lots of quilts.

WORKSHOP: APPLIQUÉ WITH THE LOVELY DAY QUILT

Raw edge appliqué is kind of like drawing with fabric in its immediacy. In this fun, laid back class (the only machine stitching involved is the quilting), start to build the Lovely Day quilt, 1 block at a time, cutting, adhering, stitching with a quilt-as-you-go technique, and even embellishing with a bit of hand embroidery.

About Tamara:

Tamara is a licensed fabric designer and quilter who is best known for the playful use of colour she employs in her designs and her fresh, inventive eye where quilt design is concerned. Her work has been featured in a number of International quilting magazines, she designs her own line of quilt patterns and she regularly creates original quilts for companies within the textile industry.

Tamara has been sharing her love of designing fresh, modern quilts and other needle arts with students across North America for a number of years. She equally enjoys teaching techniques and inspiring others to embrace their unique voice in creating contemporary textiles true to their personal vision.

Having spent her youth in the Caribbean plays a large part in Tamara’s design aesthetic. She is greatly inspired by nature, color and pattern and plays on a combination of her weekend wanderings, her children’s current fascinations and her own memories to tell stories through design. She creates work that is fresh, joyous and youthful with a touch of whimsy.
