LMQG 2025 QuiltCon Challenge Quilt

The Submission:
The MQG Community Challenge quilt is together and quilted, and was shown at our November meeting.
We received more than the 48 blocks needed to create the quilt to the specific size needed, and these are featured on the pieced back. Lorraine put the back together for us, and it's now in the hands of Elaine for the binding.
Following a survey in our private Facebook LMQG Members group with digital design options, Linda M longarm quilted with the digital design "Modern E2E". The batting came from our bolt of white Hobbs 80/20 that we have on hand for donation quilts.
We expect to hear some time in December if it will make the journey to Phoenix for QuiltCon. To prepare for that, the next step after binding is to have glamour photographs taken - we have asked Kristyn's very talented husband to take this task on.
In the submission for QuiltCon, we had to have an artist statement for this quilt - this is what we used:
"We entitled our quilt "Connections" as we asked our very creative guild members to design a unique quilt block with a nod to the Challenge's theme of lines and bars, with the only stipulation that a blue line or bar be included to connect to the next block. We therefore connect to our fellow quilters, and ultimately to our global community through the donation of this quilt."
The Construction:
Your LMQG Executive Team has given the go-ahead to have the guild purchase the fabrics that will be used in this quilt, so we will be providing each member wishing to participate, with a kit of 4 fat 8ths, chosen at random from the full palette required by QuiltCon.
Each member participating is requested to create one block, 10 1/2” square (unfinished). This will create a quilt that is six blocks wide and eight blocks tall, to create a quilt that is 60” x 80”. A total of 48 blocks are needed.
The theme of the quilt is LINES and BARS. We have collected some inspiration photos, and will share some sample blocks that we’ve made for inspiration.
We will tie these together by having you ensure that one or two sides, have the lightest fabric in a strip on one edge, with a dark blue connector bar through it. We will show you samples at our meeting in July!
We need all blocks completed for our September meeting, so that we can get the quilt top quilted and bound, with photos ready for the QuiltCon2025 submission deadline in October.
