Did you know that the Modern Quilt Guild presents monthly webinars?  Each month they cover a different topic.
The webinars are announced in their monthly newsletter.  If you do not receive this newsletter and would like to, you can do so by clicking here.  

You will need to sign up for the webinars in advance by clicking on the link provided in the newsletter. The MQG will email you with instructions on how to join the webinar. 

The webinars seem to fill up fast, so you may want to sign up as soon possible.

Riley Blake Challenge Update

For those LMQGC members that signed up for the Modern Quilt Guild Riley Blake Challenge by August 31, 2013, there has been an change to the challenge deadline.  

The new deadline is February 17, 2014.

Just to recap, here are the guidelines for the challenge:

  • Completed photos must be posted in the Modern Quilt Guild FINISHED forum here.
  • Members can make anything they want as long as it is quilted.
  • Add in any solids fabric or Riley Blake printed fabric.
  • You do not need to use all the fabrics given to you.
  • Upload and share your photos to the Fabric Challenge Forum on the Modern Quilt Guild Community site here.
  • Don’t forget to use the #mqgrileyblakechallenge on Instagram and Twitter!

The Modern Quilt Guild will announce Ten finalists on February 19, 2014.
Riley Blake will pick three winners and announce the finally winners on February 24, 2014.

October Guild Meeting Recap & Welcome to the New Website!

Welcome to the new London Modern Quilt Guild Canada website with our very own official domain name "www.londonmodernquiltguildcanada.com"! The website is still a work in progress so please bear with us and keep checking back for updates. Our home page is now set up in a blog format with the hope to keep all guild members and visitors updated on all of our news, events etc.

Our October meeting was held this past Saturday.  Not all members were in attendance due to the Thanksgiving holiday, however there was a great turn out!  Official meeting minutes will be sent to all LMQGC members in the upcoming weeks.  In the meantime, here is a quick recap of the meeting.

Tip of the Month

Chantal was kind enough to give us all a demonstration on different types of needles and threads.  We all have a new mantra: "New Project, New Needle".  You can find a quick reference guide on the Schmetz Needles website.  Click on the image below for a shortcut to the site.

Logo Challenge

Now that we have our very own website domain, perhaps we should have our very own logo?  All members are welcome create a simple & colourful logo that  represents our Guild.  This can be hand drawn or created digitally and should fall under the modern umbrella.  Have a look at other Modern Guild Websites for some inspiration.  Many guilds have logos that representative of their geographical area.  LMQGC Members can present their option at November's meeting.

The front of Sonia's beautiful & colourful quilt with appliqued scraps. The quilting is a linear meandering pattern using a walking foot.

The back of Sonia's quilt is flannel with pieced squares. Can you also spot the accent in the binding? Such a fantastic detail!

Another beautiful quilt made by Sonia (her picture) is Shot cotton and a wool batting make a very soft quilt.

A great tip and worked shared by Mary. Take an old mirror frame, remove mirror. Add fishing line at equal intervals within the frame. Add eye hooks to the back of small quilted pieces to display and hang off of the fishing line. So clever. Great small art quilts with a common bird theme and detail.
