Thanks to everyone that stopped by our display table at the London Friendship Quilt Show!
 
Here are some answers to your questions and more information about our guild and the quilts we had on display.  I hope I remembered to include everything that was discussed, if not, email the guild and we will get that information for you.
 
The November meeting will be on November 12th and we are explaining Alternate Grid quilt layout.  If you have a bunch of blocks of varying sizes, please bring them to the meeting and we will all help you arrange them into a quilt top design.  If you can stay later in the afternoon to sew, then you might be able to complete that quilt top!
We will give you tips on arranging future quilt tops with a worksheet to use later.
 
The December meeting will have a workshop on a raw edge applique; quilt as you go style sewing.  Some of you were taken aback with needing 150 mini charm squares, that is only if you are making a large quilt.  If you wanted to make a baby quilt or a place mat or pillow, only bring 1 mini charm pack or less than 50- 2.5” x 2.5” squares you cut yourself.  Please bring your backing, batting and top fabric all sandwiched and basted together to the size you wish to make. 
There will also be a gift exchange of a small hand made item and a potluck of treats to celebrate the holidays. 
This will be our last meeting at the East Lions Artisans Centre for a while as they are building a new facility.
 
Our meetings from January onward will be at the Boyle Memorial Community Centre at 530 Charlotte Street in London.  This is near the Quebec Street overpass close to the corners of Dundas and Quebec.   
Our meeting time will be the second Saturday of every month from 12-4PM.

Guild Business

Catch-Up & Sew-In

This meeting will be a "catch up & sew-in" meeting for anyone interested in knowing more about the programs and demos that were presented so far this year.  The sew-in and catch-up will run simultaneously.

If you would like to try out any of the previous demos, please bring scraps to try them out.

Don't forget to bring a basic sewing kit (rotary cutter, pins, thread etc.), your sewing machine, cord & pedal.

We will sew until 4:30pm.

 Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of attending the Thread Bar Workshop by  Anita from Cotton Mill Threadworks.  We had all heard wonderful things about this workshop and I have to say it was all true.

There was a bit of prep work for this workshop.  We all created 12 - 8 1/2" x11 quilt sandwiches.  One for every thread we were to try out.  

Anita went over several tips and tricks and perceived myths about thread and quilting in general.  She then proceeded to discuss each thread.  Once a couple of threads were presented we had an opportunity to test drive each thread with our own machine and also try out some of those fancy stitch settings that we don't always use in our projects.

Our delicious lunch was generously donated by our member Debbie.  

​Our member Kristyn kept everything together behind the scenes.

It was a great time had by all.  If you ever get an opportunity to take this workshop, please do.  This would benefit not only quilters, but any sewists.
