Over the next few months our members that attended Quiltcon 2017 will be demonstrating some of the skills they learned.

In the first of the series, Sheilagh will demonstrate some of the beginner stitches she learned in Alison Glass' Embroidery 101 Class.

For our program, we will use these beginner stitches to create the heart shaped sampler pictured above.  This free pattern is by Alison Lang and Rachel Beyer of Adventures In Making.

Here is what you will need:

8-inch diameter embroidery hoop
12”x12” square of fabric (quilter’s cotton or linen works best)
Sewing scissors
Fine-lead pencil (or nonpermanent fabric marking pen)

The Guild will provide:

Perle Cotton - Variety of colours (If you wish, feel free to bring your ouwn Perle cotton or Embroidery Floss)
Embroidery Needle
Printed Pattern for you to Trace

If you are an experienced embroiderer (we know many of our Members are), feel free to bring some of your own embroidery to show the group!!

We look forward to seeing you Saturday!

Quilt Con was amazing- keep reading to see how much fun our members had!

We really had a strong showing of London MQG Canada members at QuiltCon in Savannah this year!

Some drove down before the quilt show and did some early sightseeing, while others sat around in the Pearson airport for 12 hours waiting for the fog to lift, and others stayed longer to continue on vacation.
Picture
The weekend was jam packed with so much to see and do, both at QuiltCon and in the city of Savannah!
The first morning was the awards ceremony for the winning quilts- and a few Canadians were honoured with ribbons!
Picture
There were classes to take, lectures to attend and demos to watch from 9am to 9pm.
Here is an overview of the vendors and quilts on display.  Look at the vendors!
Picture
One of our members Sheilagh had a mini quilt she made hanging in the Crimson Tate booth- way to go Sheilagh!  And Sonia met Heather Givens too- isn't she just the sweetest!
Even with the thousands of attendees, some of our members were able to pose for a photo.  Others missed each other entirely (Sonia isn't sure Kristyn was actually at QuiltCon because they never saw each other)
Picture
There were various meet ups during the show.  The MQG had their very first Mini Quilt Swap some of our members participated in.
Picture
As well as the evening happy hour social events and a Quilts for Pulse meet up.  Lyndsey assembled a guild quilt for Pulse so we left a London MQG button on their display booth.
The MQG arranged a tour of SCAD including their art gallery and fibre building.
And the quilts- there wasn't enough time in the day to see all the quilts!
There were amazing quilts- like Bling made by Katherine Jones which won Best of Show!
Picture
And there were some not so great quilts, which was kind of disappointing.

For anyone with some free time, a tour of the historic Savannah was a must.  But not for long since the biting gnats were so terrible after a while you just wanted to hide in your hotel room.  We saw giant cargo ships, but were told that the river is being dredged even deeper to accommodate the super ships.  Can you imagine a ship bigger than this?
Picture
And to get across the river we got to ride this cute little passenger ferry back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth- you get the idea!  It was a nice break to sit down and catch up with friends.
And just look at how beautiful Savannah is!  Blue sky, the sun, palm trees, multiple squares (that's what they call parks) and historic buildings. It's a city full of rich heritage.
