In August we will be taking our meeting on the Road!

Our August meeting will be held on August 8, 2015 at the new Hyggeligt Fabrics location, 144 Queen Street East, St Marys, Ontario.  Our itinerary will be as follows:


10am-12pm :  Regular Meeting at Hyggeligt.  


12pm:  Lunch at Little Red's Pub and Eatery across street from Hyggeligt.  


After Lunch - Visit to the Chocolate Factory next to Hyggeligt


On the way home: A visit to Debbie's Studio. 

Debbie’s Studio will stay open until 5PM on Saturday, August 8th, so that the LMQGC members on the road trip can stop by.  Take County Road 118 out of St Mary’s and when you get to the round about on HWY 7, keep to the right, to exit the first exit onto HWY 7.  Debbie’s studio is the first house on the right.  http://www.debbies-studio.com/contact.html

At our June meeting this past Saturday, our Programming Committee Introduced our Gen Q Challenge.
What is the Gen Q Challenge, you ask?  Well every month Generation Q Magazine publishes a Block Builder Challenge. Gen Q publishes a starter block with a limited number of lines or shapes within a square block.  It is up to you to use your imagination and piece a block using the shapes/lines provided as a starting point.  Generation Q Magazine has graciously given us permission to use their starter blocks for our challenge!

Here are the rules that we have added to this month's challenge:

1) Create a block that will have a finished size of 10"x10".
2) Use only primary colours.
3) Bring your pieced block to July's meeting.  We will raffle off all of the blocks and one lucky member will be able to take them home and create a quilt with them.

Don't forget to incorporate all of the elements of design that we have been studying for the last year!

If you would like to download a scaled version of this starter block please click here for PART 1 and here for PART 2.  Because the block is 10"x10" it will not fit on one 8 1/2"x11" piece of paper.  We have provided two parts that can be taped together at the dotted lines. The finished size of the block is to be 10"x10" so don't forget to double check that the printed template is 10"x10".

Elements of Design Series Pt 6: Texture presented by Sonia.  
Please bring the following supplies:

• 9 - 5" fabric squares
• 1 - 10" x 6" fabric rectangle (preferably a solid),
• needle 
• scissors
• thread 
• pencil
• A sewing machine (with extension cord) would be helpful , but we can share.

Show & Share

• We want to see what everyone is working on, but please allow Modern Quilts to be shared first to ensure all members get an opportunity to share.  All other items are welcome to be shared after that.

Sew-In

• Stay after the meeting for a Sew-In.  If you bring a machine, please don't forget an extension cord!

• If you plan on staying for the sew-in after the meeting, feel free to bring a lunch or a snack

In an effort to maximize our program time, please review the Guild Reports below.  If there are any items you wish to discuss, please bring them to the meeting.  Otherwise these items won't be discussed.

Modern Quilt Guild Report

• QuiltCon pre-registration for MQG members will open at 10 a.m. EST, 7 a.m. PST on June 25. Check your inboxes for more details from the MQG.
• The Riley Blake Fabric Challenge continues.  All entires are due July 31, 2015 and must be uploaded to the MQG website.
