What a fantastic meeting this month! Our member Jan, was kind enough to share a couple of techniques with the group. The first technique shared was how to free motion quilt circles (or pebbles) with squares (or windows). The sample piece might not look like too much, but you can see the full effect on Jan's table runner by clicking here. The second technique Jan shared was how to avoid an overlapping bulky end to quilt binding. Unfortuantley, I was spending too much time paying attention that I missed the photo op. Jan has promised to provide more information about her techniques for us to share on the website in the upcoming weeks. An update on the webste was given. Many member mentioned that it would be beneficial to have an actual calendar of events rather than a list. A calender has now been added to the website. You can find it by clicking here. This calendar lists our own events as well as events held by the quilting community in and around London. We have also updated our Members Only area. This is a password protected page specifically for members. If you are a member, you will receive an email shortly with your password information. Unintentionally, our show and share this month had a bit of a baby quilt theme. Two members also shared their very first quilts. Our next meeting will be held December 14, 2013.
Welcome to the new London Modern Quilt Guild Canada website with our very own official domain name "www.londonmodernquiltguildcanada.com"! The website is still a work in progress so please bear with us and keep checking back for updates. Our home page is now set up in a blog format with the hope to keep all guild members and visitors updated on all of our news, events etc. Our October meeting was held this past Saturday. Not all members were in attendance due to the Thanksgiving holiday, however there was a great turn out! Official meeting minutes will be sent to all LMQGC members in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, here is a quick recap of the meeting. Tip of the MonthChantal was kind enough to give us all a demonstration on different types of needles and threads. We all have a new mantra: "New Project, New Needle". You can find a quick reference guide on the Schmetz Needles website. Click on the image below for a shortcut to the site. Logo ChallengeNow that we have our very own website domain, perhaps we should have our very own logo? All members are welcome create a simple & colourful logo that represents our Guild. This can be hand drawn or created digitally and should fall under the modern umbrella. Have a look at other Modern Guild Websites for some inspiration. Many guilds have logos that representative of their geographical area. LMQGC Members can present their option at November's meeting. Show & Share |
